About me
Diaspora Dreams Arts Collective is a Fresno-based performance collective with a purpose to “do Black shows & do shows Black.” We collaborate with local arts and cultural organizations to bring more Black youth, adults, and elders into the theatre community as performers, designers, producers, and audience members.
Nwachukwu (they/them/she) is our founder and executive director. She is also the program manager and dramaturg for the developmental process of DYSFUNCTION: A New Musical written and composed by Ke’Lea Ajalen. You may have seen her on stage recently in DYSFUNCTION or at The Liberation Lab’s production of You Ain’t No Saint at BreakBox Thought Collective. She was Diaspora Dream’s director for School Girls; or, The African Mean Girls Play by Jocelyn Bioh and Topdog/Underdog by Suzan Lori Parks. They also played Evan in Dear Evan Hansen with Shine! Theatre.
In addition to our ED, the Diaspora Dreams steering team consists of 9 phenomenal creators: I Adeficha, Ke’Lea Ajalen, Nessa Bounthapanya, Wade Pierson, Trey Jones, Zera Leigh, Ali Ruiz, Joshua Slack and Miela Williams.
